Elven Races
Syvlan Elves:
Although Syvlan Elves or Wood
Elves which is the more common name, are descended from the same stock
as the other elves, they are far more primitive than their kin.
Sylvan Elves, by their very nature, seem more prone to violence than
their civilized cousins. Their muscles are stronger, their complexions
more florid. They have yellow to coppery-red hair, which contrasts with
their lightly tanned skin. Their eyes are generally light brown,
although bright green is not uncommon.
Wood Elves do not care about the
proceedings in the outer world; only when such acts imapact their realm
do the Wood Elves take interest. Even then, that interest is only in
removing the nuisance and in returning to the wildlands as quickly as
possible. Only other elves can break their solitude without suffering
potential hostility.
High Elves:
The most commonly seen of all
Elves, the High Elves are also the most open and friendly. They are also
the most adventurous of Elves, and have no conpunction about exploring
the world outside their homelands.
At first, High Elves may seem
aloof and arrogant, but with little effort, a glimmer of true self can
be learned.
High elves know the value of friendship and alliance with other good and
free races of the world. Trust is hard-earned however, thus, although
they serve the cause of good, one can never be sure what the reception
from them will be.
High Elves also are the most scholarly of the elven kin. They study the
many writings of the free races and often live together in small groups
to find enlightment.
Their garnments are usually elaborated and of the highest quality. They
consider themselves as cultivated and all other free races as rather
vulgar and barbaric.
High elves are very pale. Their
skin does not tan and is the color of new cream. Their hair and eyes
fall into two main categories. Those with blond hair and blue eyes, and
another equally numerous variation with dark hair, ranging from brown to
sheerest black, and intense green eyes.
High elves do not place a great
deal of value on society, preferring instead to live as they wish, not
as someone tells them to.
They live in a constant relationship with nature, never taking more than
they need, and giving back ever more.
Wild Elves:
The Wild Elves are an emotional
people, quick to anger and prone to violent outbursts. Loyal to their
friends and clan family, and wholly opposed to the evil forces of the
world.
A wild elf pursues his enemies with relentless hatred and always avenges
a personal insult or one made against his clan.
Wild Elves weave grand tales of ancient heroes to their children - their
clan celebrations are spirited affairs overflowing with food, song,
music, and dance.
Wild Elves are talented artists and crafters, capable of producing
stunning works of art. Their delicately crafted weapons and armor evoke
the beauty, power and harmony of nature.
Wild Elves speak their minds
heedless of situation or company. In fact, they consider "human
social etiquette" to be childish and a by-product of ignorant human
upbringing. Wild Elves have very little knowledge of the laws and
customs of other races.
The Wild Elves bear a striking resemblance to
Humans, although they are slimmer and have slightly pointed ears. When
wearing a hooden cloak, a wild elf easily passes for Human. Wild elves
average about 5' 10" in height and 155 pounds.
Their hair color is usually dark blond, brown or red, and their eyes
range from pale blue to dark brown. Wild Elf hair tends to be darker
than other elves, but covers a full range of colors from white to black.
It, too, is always straight and fine.
Wild Elves maintain Elven elegance and grace despite a simplier wardrobe
of leather, furs, and simple weaves. Living in warm to hot climates also
encourages the use of minimal and/or loose fitting outfits
Wild Elf relations with other humanoids are
tenuous at best. They are suspicious of Humans, considering them far too
"civilized" and out of touch with nature and the ways of the
wilderness to be trusted.
Wild Elves generally consider Dwarves to be honorable warriors, but dull
and vulgar speakers; a Wild Elf never lets a Dwarf with an axe out of
his sight. Halflings are regarded with delightful amusement but are
often ignored completely if the elf is in mixed company. Orcs and
goblins are outright despised by wild elves - they will attack them on
sight unless thoroughly convinced the creatures pose no threat.
Half Elves are shunned by the Wild Elves, for they cannot fathom another
Elf wishing to despoil her body by mating with a human and bearing a
half-breed child.
